Obituary of Janice Ruth Myer (Jeffery)

On Saturday morning, June 29th, 2019, Janice Ruth (Jeffery) Myer passed away peacefully in her sleep with her husband and daughters by her side.

She was born in Toronto, Ontario, to Wilfred Eldon Jeffery and the late Doris Marion (Stevenson) Jeffery.

Always the tallest in her class, she graduated from W.A. Porter Collegiate (Scarborough, ON) in 1969 and received her Associate of Arts in Nursing from Montgomery College (Washington, DC) in 1971.  She spent her professional life as an RN practicing the art of caring for people, first in two small hospitals in the Shenandoah Valley, VA; then in Supervision at ParaMed in Windsor, ON; and then at Scarborough General Hospital.  The last leg of her career was as a Case Manager for CCAC in Toronto and then London, ON, retiring in 2006.

She married James Richard Myer on March 27th, 1971, and they lived together in Northern Virginia for fourteen years before returning to Ontario.  Janice is survived by her two children: Shelley Ruth Myer, of London, ON; and Elizabeth Joy Myer, of Keene, NH.  She is also survived by four lovely grandchildren (Laila and Lucy Pachucki, and Jonah and Margaret Boulton) and her baby sister, Linda Carol Jeffery Batchelder.

Janice was many things: kind, smart, fun-loving, an accomplished musician, a skilled and compassionate caregiver, and always the first one to get into Lake Huron (or any body of water!) every summer.  If she wasn’t making strawberry jam or sewing new pillows to match the curtains, you could find her softly singing a hymn under her breath or filling up an entire room with laughter.

A simple service of celebration for Janice’s life will be held at Lakeshore Pentecostal Camp, 1405 Pentecostal Rd., Cobourg, ON at 7pm on Friday, July 26th.  We will gather together on Flat Rock to say a few nice things about Janice, sing some of her favorite hymns, and distribute her ashes on the big water of Lake Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Westmount Presbyterian Church in London, ON.
